Kanchenjunga Trek details

Kanchenjunga is the third highest mountain in the world. Kanchenjunga is located in the eastern part of Nepal and the border of Sikkim, India. A very popular mountain Kanchenjunga has its own reputation and is in demand in the world for trekking and expeditions. The whole region around Kanchenjunga is famous for its rugged spectacular beauty. With an elevation of 8,586 m (28,169 ft) Mt. Kanchenjunga is bordered in the west by the Tamur River, in the north by the Lhonak Chu and Jongsang La and in the east by Teesta River.

Kanchenjunga is also known as “Five Treasures of Snow”. The Kanchenjunga Region is a very popular region for stunning scenes of the various high Himalayas and Peaks. As well as Mt. Kanchenjunga there are four other subsidiary summits that exceed 8000m, the most important is Kanchenjunga West, also known as Yalung Kang (8,505m). Of some twenty peaks exceeding 7,000m, the highest are Kambachen (7,903m), Jannu (7,710m), Jongsong (7,483m), Kabru (7,353m), Tent Peak (7,365m) and the Twins (7,350m).

Like other trekking regions of Nepal, Kanchenjunga is also culturally rich. Various ethnic groups especially Sherpa and Tamang, Rai and Limbu live within their own cultures following their traditions and occupations.

Basically the Kanchenjunga Region is for those travelers who prefer non-spoiled, quiet trekking routes combined with rich nature and culture. In the high Himalayas you can encounter varieties of plants, birds, mammals, ethnic groups, religions and cultures. In this region you can experience sub-tropical zones up to the alpine zone. Outline Itinerary

Day 01 Arrival day in Kathmandu Namaste and welcome to Nepal. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 02 Kathmandu sightseeing and document preparation. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 03 Fly to Bhadrapur. After the breakfast, transfer to the airport to fly Bhadrapur. Overnight at hotel.

Day 04 Drive to Taplejung (1820m). Overnight at hotel.

Day 05 Trek to Lalikharka (2265m). Lalikharka, is a wonderful place to stay. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 06 Trek to Khesewa (2120m) The culture and lifestyle of the local people are wonderful to explore. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 07 Trek to Yamphuding (2080m). Overnight at tented camp.

Day 08 Trek to Tortong (2995m). Overnight at tented camp.

Day 09 Tortong to Cheram (3,870m). Overnight at tented camp.

Day 10 Cheram to Ramche (4580m). We reach to Ramche. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 11 Ramche to Yalung Base Camp (4500m), back to Cheram. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 12 Cheram to Sele La (4480m) to Ghunsa (3421m). We pass through the rhododendron forest and gradually trek to Ghunsa, overnight at tented camp.

Day 13 Rest day in Ghunsa. We take a walk around in Ghunsa and take abundant photographs. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 14 Ghunsa to Kambachen (4050m). We reach to Kambachen and take a rest. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 15 Kambachen to Lhonak (4780m) . The landslide section makes our trek challenging and we steadily trek to Lhonak.

Day 16 Kanchenjunga base camp, (5143) and trek down to Lhonak. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 17 Lhonak to Ghunsa (3475m).The scenery of the down hill remote countryside is amazing. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 18 Ghunsa to Amjilosa (2308m). From Ghunsa, we trek down after the breakfast. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 19 Trek to Lelep (1750m). Overnight at tented camp.

Day 20 Trek to Chiruwa (1270m) Overnight at tented camp.

Day 21 Trek to Mitlung (921m). Overnight at tented camp.

Day 22 Trek to Taplejung 5-6 hrs The last day of the trek, we trek to Taplejung from Mitlung.Overnight at hotel.

Day 23 Drive back to Bhadrapur From Taplejung, we drive to Bhadrapur for our flight on the following day. Overnight at lodge.

Day 24 Fly Back to Kathmandu From Bhadrapur , Overnight at hotel.

Day 25 Rest (Shopping) Day Today, you have the whole day for your personal business.   Overnight at hotel.

Day 26 Final Departure day The last day of the trip. Thank you for joining us for your memorable trip. See you again.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01Arrival day in Kathmandu Namaste and welcome to Nepal. Alpine Excursion Treks and expedition's representative welcome you warmly at the Tribhuwan International Airport and transfer to the hotel. You take rest and enjoy your meal in the evening. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 02Kathmandu sightseeing and document preparation. After the breakfast, you set out for the sightseeing trip in the Kathmandu valley. Our expert tour guide shows you the UNESCO world heritage sites, which include Pashupatinath (the Hindu temple), Boudhanath (Buddhist stupa), Swayambhunath (Buddhist stupa and temple). Then, return back to the hotel. Beside this, we may take the day to prepare the trekking documentation. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 03Fly to Bhadrapur. After the breakfast, transfer to the airport to fly Bhadrapur. It is a picturesque flight that takes you to the gateway of the Kanchenjunga trek. In Bhadrapur, we meet the rest of the crew, get introduced and prepare for the drive tomorrow. Overnight at hotel.

Day 04Drive to Taplejung (1820m). 7-8 hrs From Bhadrapur, we drive to Taplejung after the breakfast, enjoying the green hill sceneries. This is an opportunity to admire the glory of nature. After a long drive, we reach to Taplejung and take a rest. Overnight at hotel.

Day 05Trek to Lalikharka (2265m). 6-7 hrs The first day of the trek, we begin to trek from Taplejung after the breakfast. We have an easy walk through the countryside and eventually goes through the River bank. Lalikharka, is a wonderful place to stay. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 06Trek to Khesewa (2120m) 5-6 hrs From Lalikharka, we trek to Khesawa, a place dominated by the ethnic communities. The culture and lifestyle of the local people are wonderful to explore. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 07Trek to Yamphuding (2080m). 6-7 hrs After the breakfast, we begin to trek through the uphill trail and walk same almost the day. We follow the bank of the Kabeli Khola and the exciting surroundings welcome us. We pass the cascading waterfalls nearby. Walking further, we cross a bridge and walk all the way to Yamphuding. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 08Trek to Tortong (2995m). 6-7 hrs Through the rocky path and the gradual slope, we commence to trek after the breakfast in Yamphuding. The trail is not wide, but even not a difficult to walk. Passing some terraced hillside, we reach to the green grassy slopes. Walking down to the Amji Khola, we walk along the bank and reach Tortong, crossing Lassiya Bhanjyang. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 09Tortong to Cheram (3,870m). 5-6 hrs After the breakfast, we start the trek alongside the grassy trail. Then we take the right side trail along the Simbuwa Khola and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Lalung valley. The Tuplung peak can be explored, though from far distance. Then we walk through the trail dominated by the rhododendron forest all the way to Cheram. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 10Cheram to Ramche (4580m). 6-7 hrs From Cheram, we begin to trek after the breakfast, climbing up to the breast of the Yalung glacier. The surrounding view of the alpine level is incredible. The Himalayan sceneries can be explored excited as we are already in the higher altitude. Passing the Lapsang village, we reach to Ramche. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 11Ramche to Yalung Base Camp (4500m), back to Cheram. After the breakfast at Ramche, we walk ahead and climb down following a stream and climb up to the moraine. Surprisingly, the spectacular views of Jannu peak, Nyukla Lachingm Kanchenjunga and the neighboring panoramas can be explored from the trail. Passing the Oktang monastery, we reach to the Yalung base camp, which is another stunning viewpoint. Spending some precious time taking the snaps, we trek down to Cheram and take a rest. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 12Cheram to Sele La (4480m) to Ghunsa (3421m). 7-8 hrs From Cheram, we begin the trek crossing the Sinelapche Bhanjyang, which will be continued with other several passes. Then we cross the Mirgin La Pass, which will be followed by the Sinion La Pass. After that, we climb up to the Sele La Pass, which is located at the highest altitude with steep and slippery sections. Walking further, we pass through the rhododendron forest and gradually trek to Ghunsa, overnight at tented camp.

Day 13Rest day in Ghunsa. As the previous day remained a challenging day, we take a rest day in Ghunsa. After the lunch, we take a walk around in Ghunsa and take abundant photographs. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 14Ghunsa to Kambachen (4050m). After the breakfast at Ghunsa, we trek down to the River bank, enjoying the exciting scenery. Passing through the grazing meadows, we can see the versatile wild flowers. Then we walk through the rhododendron forest, cross the bridge at Rampuk Kharka, enjoy the waterfall scenery and the sloppy landslide section. The Jannu peak and its surroundings are breathtaking. Then we reach to Kambachen and take a rest. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 15Kambachen to Lhonak (4780m) 6-7 hrs. Today, we walk from Kambachen to Lhonak through the challenging and technical section. We begin to walk earlier and walk through the rocky fields. The trail lies along the bank of the River, enjoying the cascading waterfalls. Ramtang monastery is located on the trail. Again the landslide section makes our trek challenging and we steadily trek to Lhonak.

Day 16Kanchenjunga base camp, (5143) and trek down to Lhonak. 7-8 hrs This is a significant day of the trek. From Lhonak, we ascend to the Kanchenjunga base camp crossing the massive Kanchenjunga glacier. The route goes via Pangpema. Kanchenjunga base camp is usually covered by the snow heaps and offers the breathtaking view of Mt. Kanchenjunga, the third highest peak of the world. Then we trek down to Lhonak and take a rest. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 17Lhonak to Ghunsa (3475m). From Lhonak, we descend all the way to Ghunsa via Kambachen. It is the same route we took when we were climbing up. The scenery of the down hill remote countryside is amazing. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 18Ghunsa to Amjilosa (2308m). From Ghunsa, we trek down after the breakfast. First, we pass Phale and happen to see some of the Buddhist cultural sites as monastery and chhortens. Trekking down, we further descend to Gyabla, cross the bridge and enjoying the waterfall scenery; we walk along the Sumbung Khola and ultimately reach to Amjilosa. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 19Trek to Lelep (1750m). 5-6 hrs From Amjilosa, we trek down to Lelep after the breakfast. The lower altitude trek is easy to do through the terraced hillside and trek down to the stream. Crossing the bridge, we trek from the right and pass through the forest. Walking continually, we reach to Lelep. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 20Trek to Chiruwa (1270m) 6-7 hrs It's time to trek down further from Lelep. The trail is wide and more village appears, as we continue to pass the ethnic and mixed communities. Then we gradually walk further to Chiruwa. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 21Trek to Mitlung (921m). 6-7 hrs After the breakfast at Chiruwa, we begin to trek to Mitlung. We descend on the tropical altitude. Through the easy and fine trail, we reach to our destination of Mitlung and rest. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 22Trek to Taplejung 5-6 hrs The last day of the trek, we trek to Taplejung from Mitlung. It goes through the easy and gentle downhill trail. In comparison to the previous days, it is more trafficked and bustling. Celebrate the success of the Kanchenjunga trek. Overnight at hotel.

Day 23Drive back to Bhadrapur From Taplejung, we drive to Bhadrapur for our flight on the following day. Beside this, we can also drive directly from Taplejung to Kathmandu, which is a long and tiresome. Celebrate the last day of the trekking with the crew and bid farewell. Overnight at lodge.

Day 24Fly Back to Kathmandu From Bhandrapur, we fly back to Kathmandu exploring the beautiful sceneries of the green hills and the mountains on the horizon. Arriving in Kathmandu, transfer to the hotel. Then, it's time for laundry, rest and delicious meal. Overnight at hotel.

Day 25Rest (Shopping) Day Today, you have the whole day for your personal business. You can enjoy shopping, buying things for your loved one and relatives. Enjoy the time roaming around and selecting the things. Make your last day memorable. Overnight at hotel.
